       Dog Nutrition

As carnivores, dogs have higher protein and fat requirements than humans that are best fulfilled by flesh foods – meat, poultry, fish, and eggs. They do not thrive on plant proteins from wheat, corn, or soy, which supply an incomplete spectrum of amino acids. Choose human-grade meats that are USDA approved, pet-grade can (and often does) come from diseased or tainted sources. Whole meats are better than rendered meat meals or by-products.

Rotation and variety help prevent food sensitivities and allergies by not overexposing animals to the same proteins all of the time. A varied diet will result in a healthier animal who doesn’t suffer a stomach upset from changing foods.

       Supplements

Ideally a dog would receive all of the nutrients he needs from a high quality unprocessed diet. Unfortunately, most dogs don’t eat a natural nutrient dense diet and consequently would benefit from supplementation.

Good Digestion is a great all purpose enzyme, probiotic and greens supplement. It is perfect for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Good Digestion is especially helpful when a dog is coming off antibiotics. The probiotics help repopulate the good bacteria in the intestine and the digestive enzymes help reduce the digestive load on a weak system.

Enzymes Plus, our most popular formula, contains a complete spectrum of digestive enzymes plus kelp extract, bioflavinoids, and two natural forms of Vitamin C, rose hips and acerola.

Vitamins: Missing Link and Vetline both offer great multi-purpose canine vitamins.

Essential Fatty Acids supplementation would benefit most dogs. They help improve coat quality causing dogs to shed less. EFA’s are especially helpful for allergy prone dogs. Because EFA’s are fragile, make sure that you pick a high quality supplement, store it in a cool area, don’t shake the bottle, and use it within 30 days of opening.

       Remedies

Rescue remedy is a completely safe, extremely effective calming tonic. A few drops can easily be added to a dog’s water or placed directly in the mouth. Make sure to have some on hand near the 4th of July.
